Agricultural products need fair market
As it is clear, Afghanistan is a mountainous and agricultural country that has mostly irrigated lands, pastures, rivers, canals and vast agricultural areas. Its climate is suitable for growing various types of crops as well as animal husbandry and rich in grains, vegetables and fresh fruits. Agriculture is popular and millions of farmers are busy in this work. This means that the important part of the people’s economy is secured through agriculture products, as well as cultivating various kinds of fruits and vegetables and livestock. In this case, it is clear that if the country’s agricultural products is good and trade is properly managed, then our countrymen’s problems will be reduced. But when agricultural production is reduced or lost due to climatic or commercial problems, then the lives of the majority of people will also face harsh problems. Agriculture is the backbone of Afghan livelihoods and significant for Afghanistan’s economy. Agriculture is the backbone of Afghans and has traditionally dominated Afghanistan’s economy and contributed to a large part to its growth. About 70 percent of Afghans live and work in rural areas, mostly engaged in growing crops, and 61 percent of all households derive income from agriculture. Despite a decline in its share of Afghanistan’s overall economy, the sector still employs 40 percent of the total workforce, and more than half of Afghans living in rural areas contribute to agriculture. With the right management and investments, the agriculture sector can drive down poverty and boost sustained growth in Afghanistan through jobs, better productivity, and inclusiveness. It seems that after the takeover of the country by the Islamic Emirate, more people turned to cultivation than before. Thousands of wells have been drilled and vast arid areas have been irrigated and planted with the help of solar power. It solves some economic problems and increases production, but on the other hand, in the next few years, the underground water reservoirs may dry up and the same good fields may turn into dry fields due to droughts. Also, the increase in vegetables and fresh fruits creates concerns for farmers for not having a suitable market. Nowadays, agricultural products are ripening, and farmers complain over the lack of a proper market for their products. The Islamic Emirate should, particularly the related government officials should address farmers problems and provide fair markets for their agriculture products.
